Our Journal:  Illinois Geographer

The Illinois Geographer offers one of the best opportunities to exchange ideas, stimulate new thinking, and simply enjoy life via geographers' insights.  The journal is for academicians and general readers alike.  It is refereed to help ensure that ideas presented have been tested for relevancy and cogency.  The journal carries materials relevant to teachers from senior institutions through junior high school.  It is by no means restricted to Illinois topics although much of the material is about Illinois.  It truly has a global scope.  Modestly entitled Bulletin of the Illinois Geographical Society for 58 years (since 1955), the Illinois Geographer proclaims a new era dedicated to an expanded geographical awareness.

Illinois Geographer Seeking Submissions!  We are seeking articles and book reviews for future editions. All submissions are peer-reviewed and may cover any geographic topic. Please e-mail submissions to the editor of Illinois Geographer, Jill Thomas (jfthoma@ilstu.edu).

Guidance for Preparation of Manuscripts for the Illinois Geographer

The editor invites authors of papers on any aspect of geography or geographic education to submit their manuscripts for publication consideration. Authors need not restrict their focus to Illinois topics. Typed manuscripts, with double spacing, and carefully checked for accuracy. All manuscripts must be submitted in digital format (Microsoft Word is preferred) and may be emailed as an attachment to the Editor at jfthoma@ilstu.edu.  All photos, maps, and graphics should be suitable for reproduction and printing on a 5.5 x 8.5 inch page. Illustrations can either be hard copies (originals or high quality copies) or saved as jpeg or tiff format files. All authors must include a 50-100 word abstract with their manuscript. The Illinois Geographer style broadly conforms to that of the Professional Geographer (go to http: //www.aag.org/pulbications/PG/pgweb4.html and click on “style sheet” link for more information). Contributions which exceed 25 double-spaced pages in length are welcome but should be cleared with the editor in advance.
Manuscripts should be emailed directly to the Editor at the e-mail address listed above. Authors should allow at least two months for the evaluation of their contribution by the editor and at least two anonymous referees before a decision is rendered considering suitability for publication in the Illinois Geographer. Do not submit articles that have appeared or have received acceptance for publications in other journals.
